Really tragic news from France. Yasmine Belmadi was killed in an accident last week in Paris, the day after finishing his most recent film. He was getting rid of a cigarette from his moped, and hit a lamp post. He was 33.
Belmadi appeared in many films over the past decade, in Sébastien Lifshitz's beautiful and gentle portrait of family, Wild Side, François Ozon's Les amants criminels, and Nassim Amaouche's Adieu Gary, which won the Grand Prix at the Semaine de la Critique in Cannes. It's for his first role I'll really remember him for though, the one I saw him first in, Lifshitz's Les Corps Ouverts. Strobe lights blasting on a young Arab man caught up in flashes of sexual doubt.
